Head Team Physician, St. Louis Cardinals Sports Medicine 1998-2013

Dr. Paletta attended Holy Cross in Worcester, MA where he lead the team in scoring in Lacrosse.  Subsequently, he attended The Johns Hopkins University for medical school in Baltimore, MD.  He did his internship training in Chicago at Northwestern University Memorial Hospital and then to the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery for his residency training in orthopedic surgery.  While in New York, he also completed a Sports Medicine Research Fellowship, prior to heading to Cleveland for his Sports Medicine Fellowship.  Dr. Paletta did an additional fellowship in Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Medicine, and maintains an interest in this population.  He is the only physician in St. Louis having completed both a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Pediatrics. 

Dr. Paletta returned to the Hospital for Special Surgery where he began his long stint with major league baseball by acting as the associate team physician for the New York Mets.  He was then recruited to St. Louis to become an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and the Chief of the Sports Medicine Division at Washington University.  Along with this he also became the Head Team Physician for the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Rams.  Dr. Paletta continues to serve as the Head Team Physician for the St. Louis Cardinals and is nationally recognized as one of the top 5 orthopedic surgeons treating the complex problem of shoulder and elbow injuries in throwing athletes.  Dr. Paletta has an interest in Ulnar Collateral Ligament injuries in the Elbow, Shoulder injuries, and Pediatric and Adult Sports Medicine.  He is a Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon, and fellowship trained in sports medicine. He is a member of the exclusive American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) society as well as the Major League Baseball Team Physicians Association.  He also has other important roles in the AAOS, AOSSM, and other societies.
